Foot Shop and The Community
We also recognise that we are part of a wider community and are supportive of
local community activities and charities both
on our doorstep and nationally.
Locally we provide sponsorship for organisations including Street in Bloom and
Strode Theatre as well as sponsoring numerous
local sports teams. We also work closely with
both Strode College and the local schools offering
students work experience opportunities and
workplace visits throughout the year.
In addition
to the above, we also work closely with a organisation
called Enterprise Services (part of Somerset
County Council) who provide training opportunities
for individuals with a range of learning disabilities,
enabling them to learn skills that will help
them find employment in the wider community.
We offer supported work-based learning opportunities
at The Tanyard as well as packing work that
they complete at their own premises.
Charity
of the Year
Our charity of the year for 2008/2009 is The
WRVS which stands for Womans Royal
Voluntary Service, which is a registered charity
and voluntary organisation that brings communities
together to help older people avoid lonliness,
become more independent and get more out of
life. This year we are helping them in a number
of ways – we are raising money for them through
sales of our popular Helen slipper sales, we
are donating 25pence for every pair we sell
along with other fundraising activities. In
total we are aiming to donate in the region
of £10,000 over the next year. We are also
providing our employees with the opportunity to give up some of their work time to help
the WRVS offer a Home Library Service to housebound
individuals in the Street and Glastonbury area.
We have
previously had Diabetes UK and Bibic as our
chosen charities.
